The training experiences that we have carried out in Service Learning in the Initial Training of Education Professionals: Degrees in Social Education and Pedagogy, Master’s Degree in Secondary Teacher Training at the University of Valencia and Doctorate in Education, are part of a subject compulsory called “Social Pedagogy”, an optional called “Education for Sustainability”, the subject “Learning and Teaching the Subjects of the Specialty of Sociocultural Services and the Community”, Final Master’s and Practicum Work, and training seminars of doctoral students, respectively.
Nearly 150 students have participated in working and cooperative groups, which choose their themes of intervention from Education for Development, Education for Sustainability, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Human and Children’s Rights, World Campaign for Education (GCE) and World Week for Education (SAME) fundamentally.
The teacher makes an introduction to this methodology, channels the motivations and concerns of the students to start the project, puts the students in relationship with entities and associations, supports the group work, coordinates the presentation of the students to the rest of classmates and introduces work as part of the evaluation of the subject.
At the same time, he coordinates a group of teachers who also carry out Service Learning Projects, which are part of an Innovation Project of the Universitat de València called (PID) Reticular Teaching Experiences: UVApS Teaching. (UV-SFPIE_PID19_1095524) and we participate in Congresses and Scientific Meetings presenting our contributions, as well as we have publications in magazines, both in university and non-university training, and experiences at various levels of the educational system.
The results we have obtained are significant. Students value the learning and skills achieved, the service performed and the entities also value the participation and collaboration of students in their projects and tasks.
