Learning aids for disadvantaged children, adolescents and young refugees in Nuremberg

The Nuremberg Institute of Technology Georg Simon Ohm offers its students many opportunities for Service-Learning experiences. In the following, we want to pick out and present one experience to you.

As a part of a practical assignment, students (mostly students from technical courses) accompany children and adolescents as well as young refugees in Nuremberg. They provide help with school problems in subjects such as mathematics and German, design leisure programs or support the organization of full-time offers.

The students bring their own professional and social skills to the cooperation partners and develop them further. They are also accompanied by employees from the respective locations and by the university. Introductory events on didactic methods, the situation of children and adolescents from socially disadvantaged families, the asylum process and intercultural communication prepare students for practical use. In addition, the students receive instructions on how to reflect on their own work.
