Empower to Protect

This project, in addition to developing skills in students, aims to promote health literature in the community. Birth of March 2020, during a COVID-19 pandemic, of increased COVID-1 needs identified in various needs, centered on the ability of your prevention of COVID9, specifically not safe practices and pre-transmission of the disease. The project can evolve to other problematic health issues according to the needs identified in the community, maintaining, in the development of competences in the students.
Based on the identified possibilities, training activities are planned, adapted to specific contexts. The contents of the training were systematized into some items common to all training contexts (introduction to COVID-19; hand hygiene) and items adapted to each social reality, corresponding to their applicability in the individual protection package (personal protective equipment) , safe working/university environment, being a professional/student).
Trainings are planned and delivered by students, with guidance from teachers. Using research strategies, the contents are based on national and international guidelines from recognized experts (eg: General Health Directorate, World Health Organization, Center of Disease Control), as well as on integrated Normative documents that systematize the main functional contents of the trainees of each training context. Scientific and pedagogical guidance takes place in several moments of partnership between teachers and students, with special attention to the training of communication skills inherent to the training process. The training is carried out by students who share the syllabus among themselves. In the final discussion and evaluation of the sessions with the trainees, the students count on the collaboration of the teachers. How trainings are directed to entities, according to the partners of higher risk activities in the transmission of SARS-CoV-2. The following stand out: elastic structures for the elderly (ERPI); home support service (SAD); crèches, kindergartens and preschools; Educational institutions (basic, secondary and higher).
In the training dynamics between students and the community, it is sought that there is harmony between academic skills and human and professional training skills. In the involvement with concrete social and health problems, the student’s active commitment to the community is developed, mediated by ethical principles and social responsibility. The assessment of learning is transversal to the entire process with reflection on the lived experience.
